It's estimated that abut 5% of adults develop carpal tunnel syndrome at some point during their lives. Here at Rhino Chiropractic & Holistic Wellness Center, carpal tunnel syndrome is just one of the many conditions our team can address non-invasively.
Carpal tunnel syndrome affects the median nerve, a major nerve that passes through the wrist (specifically, through the carpal tunnel ligament). When excess or unusual pressure is placed on this nerve, it can become pinched, which can result in pain and numbness in the hands, wrist, and fingers.
People who spend a lot of time typing or working with their hands for a living are more prone to develop carpal tunnel syndrome. The more you work with your hands, the more likely it is that your median nerve could become pinched or compressed, thus causing this condition.
There are a number of warning signs and symptoms you should watch out for, especially if you spend a lot of time working with your hands or fingers. The most common sign is that of numbness or tingling in the hands and fingers. This may be present in one or both hands, and will usually only happen on occasion.
Some with carpal tunnel will also experience pain in the hands, wrists, and even shooting up the forearm, and some will also wake up with sore or stiff fingers as a result of the condition.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is very common these days, but the good news is that it can be addressed without the need for surgery in most cases. The key is to detect and address the problem early on, before it has a chance to get worse.
