Prenatal Chiropractic Care Supports a Healthier Pregnancy and Natural Birth Process

Prenatal chiropractic care helps to support a healthy pregnancy from conception to delivery. Our chiropractor Dr. John Gehnrich is an intuitive Holistic Wellness Expert who is also experienced with the Webster Technique, a specialized adjustment technique for expectant mothers. Chiropractic adjustments can help to reduce the risk for a C-section due to a breech birth and improve labor outcomes. Regular adjustments are also beneficial for reducing pregnancy-related back pain, neck pain, pelvic pain, and joint pain.

Prenatal Chiropractic Care May Help Reduce Risk for C-Section

Dr. Gehnrich and our chiropractic team provides prenatal care in accordance with guidelines set forth by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, which recommends expectant mothers receive care throughout their pregnancy. Our adjustment tables are designed to comfortably accommodate a woman’s changing body through each trimester. Using specialized adjustment techniques, including the Webster Technique that is designed specifically for pregnancy, we ensure our patients receive safe, appropriate care.

We offer three phases of chiropractic care to support a healthy pregnancy:

1. Pre-conception.

Chiropractic care at this stage will help to prepare both men and women to become parents. Nutrition and alignment is necessary to free the body of nerve interference and enhance overall wellness. This care helps to prepare the body for fertilization. As a holistic wellness expert, Dr. Gehnrich can also make additional nutritional and lifestyle recommendations.

2. Prenatal.

During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes profound changes to accommodate the growing fetus. A woman’s center of gravity gradually begins to shift downwards. This shift in gravity is intensified during the third trimester, when a baby’s head places pressure on a mother’s legs, back, buttocks and bladder. This extra pressure can irritate the sciatic nerve, triggering pain in the lower back, buttocks and upper legs. Proper nerve and energy flow to the fetus and placenta supports the baby’s healthy development from conception.

Regular adjustments during pregnancy can help support correct pelvic alignment and reduce pregnancy-related pains, including sciatica. Women who receive regular chiropractic adjustments throughout their pregnancy often experience less morning sickness and nausea while also benefitting from greater energy. This is especially helpful for busy mothers who need to keep up their energy for working, exercising and caring for their children.

3. Delivery.

Is a natural birth part of your birth plan? If so, chiropractic care may help to prepare your body for a safe, natural birth without excessive medical intervention. A correctly aligned spine may reduce the risk for C-sections and help women experience a faster, natural labor.

One of the most common reasons for a C-section is that the baby is in breech position. Dr. Gehnrich is experienced with prenatal chiropractic adjustments designed to gently prompt the baby to turn. When a woman is properly adjusted prior to giving birth, she may also experience less back labor as the pelvis is open to releasing the baby without as much pain.
